Empowering Youths to "Beat Plastic Pollution" A Resounding Success on World Environment Day 2025 in Tubah municipality.
The Ideal Planet in a powerful demonstration of community action and environmental stewardship, successfully commemorated the 2025 World Environment Day in the Tubah Municipality.
This landmark

event was held in collaboration with, Enviro Peace Initiative (ENPI) and Eco-Friendly Generation (ECOFRIGE). Held at the University of Bamenda Sports Village, the celebration was strategically aligned with this year’s global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” and focused on our core pillars of intervention which are Empowerment, Action, Research, and Advocacy.
The day was packed with impactful activities designed to translate awareness into tangible skills and community change as explored in the highlights bellow.
A Call to Action: Advocacy Walk & Community Clean-Up
The commemoration kicked off with a spirited advocacy walk, led by Mr. Afumbom Derrick Awo, Team Lead of Enviro Peace Initiative. The procession, which started from CCAST Street, moved through Three Corners Bambili and back to the University of Bamenda’s Sports Village. Participants, chanting environmental songs, actively cleaned the road by collecting plastic containers, sending a powerful visual message about the importance of waste segregation and a plastic-free environment.
Igniting Change: Educational Sessions on Plastic Pollution
Following the walk, participants engaged in insightful briefings on the 2025 theme of the world environmental day “Beat Plastic Pollution”. Our Project Manager, Mr. Yufonyuy Princely Nsavdzenyuy, alongside Mr. Mathias Akoa Tah (President), Mr. Afumbom Derrick Awo (ENPI), and Mr. Dzelamunyuy Ghislain Simuben (ECOFRIGE), delivered motivating lectures. They emphasized the critical role of youths in turning the fight against plastic pollution and championing sustainable practices.
Hands-On Empowerment: Transforming Waste into useable home utensils
The core of the event was an intensive, 8-hour practical training session where participants learned to upcycle plastic waste into valuable household items as follows.
1) Crafting Seating Stools:
Under the expert guidance of the lead trainer, Miss. Ndula Willet Mebiyikeh, attendees transformed discarded plastic containers into durable and functional seating stools.
2) Weaving Sustainable Drying Lines:
Mr. Dzelamunyuy Ghislain Simuben then demonstrated how to cut and weave plastic containers into strong, reusable home drying lines, providing an eco-friendly alternative to conventional options.
3) Building Hanging Gardens:
The training culminated in a session on creating vertical hanging gardens from plastic bottles. This innovative technique empowered our participants to cultivate vegetables and other useful crops in limited spaces, promoting food security and greenery.
A Lasting Impact: Certifying a New Generation of Eco-Champions
In conclusion, the 2025 World Environment Day commemoration was a resounding success. We empowered and certified approximately 30 youths with practical, income-generating skills directly contributing to the “Beat Plastic Pollution” mission.
These newly acquired skills in producing seating stools, hanging gardens, and drying lines are not just environmentally sound; they are vital tools for economic empowerment. This initiative has sown the seeds for a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous community.
